Chania is famous for beautiful beaches along its northwest coastline but the area also boasts some of the best tropical beaches found on Crete.

Elafonissi on the south west coast is famous for its pink sands and crystalline waters and resembles the Caribbean. Balos lagoon is located on the north coast and is reached via boat. A tropical paradise, the lagoon has white sand and turquoise waters. Falassarna is located on the far north west and consists of 4 pieces of beautiful beach. It is a shell seekers paradise and another beach not to be missed. 

However, if you want to stay local, the strip of beach along the nearby coastline is very nice with organised areas and beach clubs. Head further west towards Maleme for a pebble beach or further east towards Platanias and Agia Marina for sandy beaches. Just before Chania town is the beach area of Chrissi Akti “ Golden beach”. A beautiful sandy beach, it's a great choice for families with shallower waters.
